SBVC - Volleyball in Birmingham

Volleyball is one of the three most popular sports on the World. Unfortunately it is much less popular in the UK, ( especially in the Warwickshire region). In this area there is lack of volleyball equipment in the sport centers and schools. In 2006 a group of volleyball players and TWM drivers created a club aiming to create a society for volleyball training for local people from Birmingham and Solihull. At the start club called Rainbow and since 2009 SBVC (South Birmingham Volleyball Club). SBVC organize volleyball training sessions in the regional sport centers and parks. We take part in volleyball tournaments in England, Cups and West Midlands leagues with pleasing successes. Some of our club members are registered as referees and coaches also more people are being trained to be so. Our club is also involved in organizing West Midlands League and Cup. And we are on the way to receive volley123 club mark.

In the 2010/11, 2011/12 and 2012/13 season we achieved nearly everything in the West Midlands. We have won ladies West Midlands Cup, Men’s West Midlands Plate, Men’s West Midlands League Div I, Ladies West Midlands League Div II. We advanced to top 16 in the Men’s National Cup. So the obvious step up was to take part in the National League in the 2011/12 season. Ladies and Men after good season was promoted to play in Division 2 National League in 2012/13 season. Present SBVC will be play in National League ladies Div W1 and men div M2N and West Midlands League Div 1 ladies and men.

As a club performing in the National League we must and we will be promoting volleyball in the region of Solihull and South Birmingham. Trainings in schools, tournaments for students, opportunity for the best young players to play in the leagues, it's all possible to do now. However as a young team we cannot afford to do everything at once. We must keeping teams , players, coaches and referees in the club, we must organizing equipment, competitions, lessons for children, tournaments for beginners. SBVC cooperating now with Birmingham City Parks, Joseph Chamberlain College, Birmingham City University,Volleyball England, West Midlands Volleyball Association, Perry Barr Community Sport and Physical Activity Network. SBVC have got a lots of volleyball projects who give a chance to increase efficiency of our effort. Teams in the National League would help us to create a group of people that will make South Birmingham Volleyball Club develop as well as create satelite clubs and school teams for young people.
